Movie Title Sequences
So I have been thinking more and more about typography. I notice it everywhere (because it is everywhere, duh) but I mean like really noticing it, but it has been sticking out to me the most in the context of type in motion and specifically in movie title sequences. The challenge here is to make title sequence an experience that sets the tone for the movie, without being to blatant or bland. The one that set me off on this tirade of movie title typography was Prozac Nation, I love this movie, always have, but just recently noticed the beauty behind its title sequence. So I was searching for the title sequence on YouTube, no luck, so I Google searched it and found an awesome website of awesome movie title sequences. What’s really cool is that movie title sequences always have type, they may not be the focus, but the treatment of the type can be the most interesting part. It can be very prominent, almost invisible, or treated as a live element.
That was justĀ a little blurb on my mind.

What inspired me most this semester?
I would say the most inspiring thing I worked on this semester was the fact that I could imagine the projects applying to real-life professional situations. The later in the semester we got the more I began to approach my work as something to keep and to be proud of rather then just another assignment. I am really inspired by where we (graphic design students) are going. Out into the real world, the chance to make a difference and make the world a more beautiful place, that is who we are becoming.

Larry Lessig is discussing the issue of the digital age and the out-dated laws that cannot apply to a digital society in a way that agrees with “common sense.” He notes that there are extremes on both ends, no law versus controlling law, and that neither are good. He drives home the idea that society is changing in a way that needs to be embraced rather than legislated (rather ineffectively.)
Notes:
- User Generated Content: celebrating amateur culture, culture where people produce for the love of what they are doing.
- RO: Read-Only, the user is not a creator.
- Participate in creation and re-creation of their culture.
- “Infernal Machines” obliterating creativity.
- Read/Write to Read Only Existence.
- (re)Creativity: taking things from the culture around us and use it to say things differently.
- Literacy for the new generation how kids speak, think and are.
- Every use of something from culture is “copies.”
- We have become a society where ordinary people live against the law, knowing they live against the law.
